New Painting
Sunday, September 12th, 2010
I made a painting at Crafternoon yesterday. Not the best thing I’ve ever done, but not the worst. It feels good to work so quickly. This took about an hour, I think.
YEA art!

1,000 uploads to YouTube, the aftermath
Thursday, June 3rd, 2010
So, a friend of mine, Patrick, has been performing a art/video project on Youtube for the last year. The project can be viewed here.
The project:
1. Upload a video to YouTube.
2. Download said video from YouTube.
3. Reupload the video you just downloaded.
4. Repeat 999 times.
Turns out the natural deterioration of the re-compression is a lovely thing to watch.
By the 1000th time there is very little left of the original image and sound track. What remains, is a pixelated wash that vaguely suggests movement. Art + Technology once again comes unique and super cool.

This was covered over at Mashable. READ THE FULL ARTICLE.

The Golden Ratio and Web Design
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
I love Nettuts. They’ve brought us another lovely article here:
http://nettuts.com/tutorials/other/the-golden-ratio-in-web-design/
I remember being fascinated by the concept of the golden ratio as a kid. Good design explained by math?!? What?!?! It suggests a greater organization to this wacky beautiful world we live in.
To me, that’s comforting.

Wiring Diagrams for light and power
Saturday, April 4th, 2009
I LOVE this book. I believe I received it from Angela Faz years ago… but it continues to be an inspiration. I love that it was on naval vessel and has tons and tons of hand lettered typography. Plus, frankly, I’m just a sucker for diagrams.
Read more about the WWII warship’s travels (chances are, this book was aboard):

BlueCanvas.com
Saturday, April 4th, 2009
Blue Canvas is an online art community that I just discovered. Don’t be fooled by the cheezy web design, there are some top notch artists on the site. In fact, it’s got nice international representation. Out of 10 artists I viewed only 1 was from the US.
Yes, yes, I added myself (and my paintings) to their ranks. You can view my gallery HERE if you want to.
… on a sidenote: I want to be in a band called : ITALIC DRAGON
(inspired by a user from blue canvas)

Josh Keyes is on fire
Saturday, April 4th, 2009
SO… it’s 5:30 am and I can’t sleep. I’m facing my third bout of illness this winter and I’m waiting ( and praying) for the theraflu to kick in.
In the mean time, I thought I’d showcase Josh Keyes. His technical skill is… well, see for yourself. Dude knows how to draw (and paint). I especially like his use of isolation and (human) perspective… This is how most of us experience animals, isn’t it? In tidy little boxes behind safety glass?
No wonder the environment is in trouble. Humanity is experiencing some serious disconnect.

I LOVE ILLUSTRATION
Friday, February 20th, 2009
So being a full time freelancer, I’m looking at ways of diversifying my income – especially supplementing my large project based paychecks with smaller more frequent paychecks – the trickling stream method, if you will.
So, one of my strategies to create passive income is through the sale of stock illustrations and flash files. There are number of sites that specialize in this sort of submission / payment method. They get paid. You get paid. Clients get high quality work for affordable prices. Everybody wins. Two excellent examples that I plan to participate on are:
www.flashden.net
www.istockphotos.com
Here is my first submission. It only took me a few hours and was so much fun to work on.

I LOVE ILLUSTRATION.
I love it so much, I’m going to actively seek out more illustration jobs. It’s such a lovable combination of arty, imaginative and potentially lucrative.
Watch out illustration world, here I come.
