Quote of the day
Sunday, April 5th, 2009
“There’s no use trying,” said Alice. “One can’t believe impossible things.”
“I dare say you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. ‘When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast!”

Wiring Diagrams for light and power
Saturday, April 4th, 2009
I LOVE this book. I believe I received it from Angela Faz years ago… but it continues to be an inspiration. I love that it was on naval vessel and has tons and tons of hand lettered typography. Plus, frankly, I’m just a sucker for diagrams.
Read more about the WWII warship’s travels (chances are, this book was aboard):

BlueCanvas.com
Saturday, April 4th, 2009
Blue Canvas is an online art community that I just discovered. Don’t be fooled by the cheezy web design, there are some top notch artists on the site. In fact, it’s got nice international representation. Out of 10 artists I viewed only 1 was from the US.
Yes, yes, I added myself (and my paintings) to their ranks. You can view my gallery HERE if you want to.
… on a sidenote: I want to be in a band called : ITALIC DRAGON

Josh Keyes is on fire
Saturday, April 4th, 2009
SO… it’s 5:30 am and I can’t sleep. I’m facing my third bout of illness this winter and I’m waiting ( and praying) for the theraflu to kick in.
In the mean time, I thought I’d showcase Josh Keyes. His technical skill is… well, see for yourself. Dude knows how to draw (and paint). I especially like his use of isolation and (human) perspective… This is how most of us experience animals, isn’t it? In tidy little boxes behind safety glass?
No wonder the environment is in trouble. Humanity is experiencing some serious disconnect.

Song Collection
Friday, April 3rd, 2009
So, I’ve had it requested from a couple of folks that I post the songs that I’ve been writing and submitting to the PRF Song Challenge. Basically, Jason and I (and in one case Rick) all wrote and recorded these songs in a few of hours. Fast and furious but lots of fun.
For those of you who don’t know, the PRF Songwriting Challenge is a weekly competition where songwriters from around the globe submit songs based on a theme or challenge. It all started on the Electrical Audio forum: READ ABOUT IT HERE
CHALLENGE: Write a song about cats / bonus points for a cappella
An Animal – Just me this time, although J did the engineering and the snapping. It sure is nice to have an audio engineer as a boyfriend.
CHALLENGE: Write a holiday song
I Don’t Believe in Santa Claus – J and I – a light-hearted Christmas romp
CHALLENGE: Write a song based on this painting
King for a Day - J and I – I really do want a collection of mini-moos.
CHALLENGE: Write a Sci-fi song
Invasion Trilogy – Jason, Rick and I – Three way song writing trilogy / Does that mean it’s cubed? Sidenote: we are expanding this and trying to work it into a piece we can perform live.

Don’t be a Whore – a freelancer’s guide to not being taken advantage of
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
So, it finally happened.
I’ve been working as a full time freelancer for a little over a year now and I finally ran into a client that wants to take advantage of me and my services. The monies in question are less than $1000, but it’s still hitting me hard as work has been slow (thanks to the lovely recession I’m SO TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT) and tax season… that glimmering little spring time gift from the government.
Anyhoo, anger aside… I’ve talked to several folks about it and even found this really great post about the things you can do to avoid being taken advantage of. It’s appropriately title: DON’T BE A WHORE.
I for one, am never going to do a job without a contract again. I’ve only done that 3 times and those are the three payments that I still have pending in my invoice folder. Don’t you love life lessons?
